How to Integrate PURLs with PostReminder #
Overview #
This guide explains how to create and use PURLs (Personalized URLs) or PQR (Personalized QR Codes) with the PostReminder platform to power personalized QR codes and landing pages for direct mail campaigns. These PURLs ensure seamless user experiences and accurate tracking, while integrating your original offer codes.
Process Workflow #
- You start with your original destination PURLs—the final URLs where you want recipients to land. These can include offer codes, personalization, or UTM parameters.
- You slightly modify each PURL to route through PostReminder, embedding your original PURL parameters for tracking.
- Example: www.mysite.com/?utm=promo123 → www.pstrmd.com/?utm=promo123
- Your team or print vendor creates QR codes using these PostReminder PURLs and prints them on your direct mail.
- When scanned, recipients land on a PostReminder microsite with CTA buttons and reminder options—all actions redirect to your original URL, preserving full tracking and attribution.
Step 1: Start with Your Original Offer URL #
Begin with your existing campaign URL (e.g., a URL from your main marketing site that contains an offer code). Example:
Original PURL:
https://www.examplecompany.com/offer?offercode=35483737559
Step 2: Generate the PostReminder PURL #

Construct your PostReminder PURL by replacing the domain with your assigned PostReminder domain and adding your unique campaign ID and offer code, UTM, or tracking parameters. Example:
PostReminder PURL Format:
https://[your-subdomain].pstrmd.com/?id=[campaign_id]&offercode=[unique_code]
For instance:
https://example.pstrmd.com/?id=954&offercode=35483737559
This new link routes users through a PostReminder landing page while preserving your original offer code for autofill and tracking purposes.
Step 3: Add PURLs to Your Data File and Configure Alerts #
In your campaign’s data file (CSV or Excel):
- Add a new column titled “PR_PURL”
- Populate the column using the correct PostReminder PURL format
- Ensure each offer code is unique per record
You will use this updated data file to generate personalized QR codes for each mail piece.
Next, configure your alert message to include the PURL dynamically:
- In the alert text, insert the shortcode [PURL] where you want the personalized link to appear
- The system will automatically replace [PURL] with the correct personalized URL when the alert is sent
Step 4: Campaign Setup Using PQR or PURL #
To personalize the campaign experience and enable accurate tracking with PostReminder, follow these updated steps when using PQRs or PURLs:
1. Set the CTA Destination with a Vanity URL
- In the Call-to-Action (CTA) button settings, add a generic vanity URL that aligns with your campaign (e.g., https://www.examplecompany.com/).
- This acts as a placeholder and will be dynamically replaced by the individual recipient’s PURL during the campaign.
2. Enable PURL Injection in Alerts
- Navigate to the Alert Message section of the platform.
- Check the “PURL” box to activate dynamic URL population.
- This ensures that the alert message includes a unique PURL for each recipient.
3. Insert the [PURL] Shortcode
- In your alert message body, place the [PURL] shortcode exactly where you want the recipient’s URL to appear.
- During execution, [PURL] is automatically replaced with the corresponding personalized URL generated from the PQR scan.
4. Test Everything
- Trigger a test alert to ensure that the message includes the dynamically inserted personalized URL in place of [PURL].
- Scan a new QR code and verify that the CTA button now links to the correct PURL, carrying over any attached UTM parameters.
Outcome #
When properly configured, this setup ensures:
- The CTA button redirects recipients to their personalized landing page.
- Alert messages dynamically deliver each user’s custom URL.
- Campaign metrics and engagement tracking stay accurate and personalized across touchpoints.
